Test your presentation in present mode and ensure that you are familiar with Mentimeter, and confident with your presentation. Here are some things to think about:

  • Run through your presentation in Presentation View by pressing the “Present” button in Mentimeter;

  • Press F on your keyboard to go into full-screen mode. This will hide your browser tabs and anything else showing on your screen;

  • Show bullet points, and go to the next slide by pressing the right arrow on your keyboard;

  • Start a quiz question by pressing the return key on your keyboard;

  • Get familiar with keyboard shortcuts.

Test voting

Once you are happy with the content, you should run a test vote. You should do this for two reasons. Firstly, to make sure you know how the voting function works, and secondly, to help you understand the audience experience. This will help you to become a better presenter! 

  • Test vote your presentation so you understand how it works for the audience;

  • If you want to preview your presentation with test data, you can show test votes;

  • Remember! Delete results after testing.

Preview Mode

Preview Mode allows you to see exactly what both presenter and audience will see and experience during the presentation. To open Preview Mode, click on the arrow next to the Present button, then select "Preview presentation."

Once in Preview Mode, you can move slides with the arrow keys or the Presentation Menu, just like when presenting in real life.

Preview helps you understand how the slides in your presentation work and how they behave when your audience interacts with them. You can test vote on your questions in order to understand what your audience will experience and make sure that your presentation is set up the way you want.

What you see

Presenter screen - This is your presentation. Move between slides by using your keyboard or the toolbar in the lower left corner.

Audience screen - This is what the audience will see on their screen. Here you can vote on the question slides and try out the reaction buttons in order to understand your audience’s experience.

Test votes - Click “Show test votes” to see what the question slides look like when they get a larger amount of votes. Click again to turn it off.

Tips and instructions - On some slide types you will see information popping up in the bottom of the screen. Here you can find useful tips and instructions on how to get the most out of your presentation.

Good to know

  • Different voting code - The voting code that you see in the top of the presenter screen is not the same as in your real presentation.

  • Results will not be saved - You never have to worry about the results. You can vote and interact in Preview as much as you want without it affecting your real presentation’s results.

  • Preview a presentation with results - If you open a presentation that already has votes, it will preview without those results.

    You can view your PowerPoint file in a variety of ways, depending on the task at hand. Some views are helpful when you're creating your presentation, and some are most helpful for delivering your presentation.

    Views for creating your presentation

    Normal view

    You can get to Normal view from the task bar

    Normal view is the editing mode where you’ll work most frequently to create your slides. Below, Normal view displays slide thumbnails on the left, a large window showing the current slide, and a section below the current slide where you can type your speaker notes for that slide.

    Slide Sorter view

    Slide Sorter view (below) displays all the slides in your presentation in horizontally sequenced, thumbnails.     Notes Page view

    You can show or hide your speakers notes with the Notes button

    Outline view

    You can get to Outline view from the View tab on the ribbon. (In PowerPoint 2013 and later, you can no longer get to Outline view from Normal view. You have to get to it from the View tab.)

    Use Outline view to create an outline or story board for your presentation. It displays only the text on your slides, not pictures or other graphical items.

    Reading view
