Which of the following is a belief of the psychodynamic Perspectives on personality quizlet?

Neuroticism is related to feeling negative emotion more often than positive emotion in one's daily life and to experiencing more lingering negative states. Neuroticism has been shown as well to relate to more health complaints , drug dependency, and is linked to coronary heart disease risk. In a longitudinal study, individuals were tracked for nearly seven years. Neuroticism was associated with dying during the study. In general, neurotic individuals appear to suffer in silence: Acquaintances and observers have difficulty detecting how neurotic another person is.

Individuals high in extraversion are more likely than others to engage in social activities, experience gratitude show a strong sense of meaning in life, and had a more positive sense of well-being in future years. In addition, extraverts are more forgiving. People rate extraverts as smiling and standing energetically and as dressing stylishly and observers know an extravert when they see one. One study found that extraverted salespeople sold more cars, especially if they were also good at picking up interpersonal cues.

Openness to experience is related to liberal values, open-mindedness, tolerance, and creativity. Openness is also associated with superior cognitive functioning, achievement, and IQ across the life span. Individuals who rate themselves as open to experience are more likely to dress distinctively, to pursue entrepreneurial goals (for instance, starting their own business), and to experience success in those pursuits. Individuals high on openness to experience are also more likely to interact with others on Internet websites and to use social media. Moreover, one meta-analysis found that higher levels of openness to experience were linked to living longer.

Agreeableness is related to generosity and altruism, to reports of religious faith, and to more satisfying romantic relationships. There are also links between agreeableness and viewing other people positively. In online dating profiles, agreeable individuals are less likely than people who score low on this trait to lie about themselves.Conscientiousness is a key factor in a variety of life domains. A meta-analysis found that conscientiousness, but not the other big five factors, was linked to college students' grade point averages; conscientiousness was also linked to better work performance.

Conscientiousness is also tied to better-quality friendships, higher levels of religious faith, and a forgiving attitude. Conscientiousness is associated as well with dressing neatly, especially in the case of men, and, like openness, is related to entrepreneurial success. Low levels of conscientiousness are linked to higher levels of criminal behavior, substance abuse, and pathological gambling, while high levels are linked to better health and lower stress levels. Conscientiousness shares a stronger relationship to longevity than do the other four factors
