Job Description:

The Public Relations office is open Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm and is the information outlet for campus visitors.  In addition to answering general inquiries about the campus and its points of interest (Edwards Mill, Fruitcake and Jelly, etc.), the PR. office handles the College’s publicity (including tracking and archiving any publicity), composes the College’s quarterly magazine the “Ozark Visitor,” coordinates and gives bus tours to tour groups, produces promotional materials such as brochures and videos, is responsible for the photography of major events, and puts on the annual Honor America and Christmas Card to the Community events.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Write press releases and Visitor stories,
Schedule and give bus tours,
Take pictures at campus events,
Help host media at major events such as major convocations,
Help with Honor America and Christmas Card to the Community events,
Answer the phone and the info request emails.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Scan local newspapers for any mention of the College,
Cut and paste news articles chronologically,
Put together media kits,
Compile Excel sheet and complete a mail merge for “hometowners”,
Data entry,
Use Adobe Photoshop,
Office maintenance/cleaning,
Assist the Director and the Assistant with any clerical duties (faxing, copying, burning CDs, etc.).

Basic Qualifications:

Communication skills, written and spoken. Must be an effective writer and must be able to effectively answer general inquiries on the College and its mission, as well as possess a good customer service attitude. Strong public speaking skills necessary,
People skills. Must be willing to interface (kindly) with C of O family and with all visitors,
Computer skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word. Excel and Adobe Photoshop knowledge a plus,
Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail,
Photography skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Ability to work with others,
Diligence and a "can-do" attitude,
Neat, clean appearance.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Clearly communicate general College information to different publics,
Master the process of writing press releases and feature stories for College promotion,
Learn how to operate a digital camera and take quality photos that can be used for publication,
Learn how to interface with the media and other key constituents,
Meet and greet the general public and represent the College well,
Be able to schedule bus tours using our bus tour software program,
Understand and help with the details in executing major events for the community,
Have proper phone and internet etiquette,
Proficiently use Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Excel,
Proficiently use any office any office equipment such as fax, DVD duplicator or copy machines,
Carefully identify, label and file publicity mentions of the College or its programs,
Be a team player and work well with others,
Multi-task without losing focus of priority projects,
Be flexible and ready to handle any new projects which PR is assigned.
