There are different types of Marketplace health insurance plans designed to meet different needs. Some types of plans restrict your provider choices or encourage you to get care from the plan’s network of doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and other medical service providers. Others pay a greater share of costs for providers outside the plan’s network.

Types of Marketplace plans

Depending on how many plans are offered in your area, you may find plans of all or any of these types at each metal level – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

Some examples of plan types you’ll find in the Marketplace:

• Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO): A managed care plan where services are covered only if you use doctors, specialists, or hospitals in the plan’s network (except in an emergency).

• Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): A type of health insurance plan that usually limits coverage to care from doctors who work for or contract with the HMO. It generally won't cover out-of-network care except in an emergency. An HMO may require you to live or work in its service area to be eligible for coverage. HMOs often provide integrated care and focus on prevention and wellness.

• Point of Service (POS): A type of plan where you pay less if you use doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers that belong to the plan’s network. POS plans require you to get a referral from your primary care doctor in order to see a specialist.

• Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): A type of health plan where you pay less if you use providers in the plan’s network. You can use doctors, hospitals, and providers outside of the network without a referral for an additional cost.

Q: What is a podiatric surgeon?
Answer: A Podiatric Surgeon specializes in foot and ankle surgery. They are often referred to as “foot and ankle” surgeons providing medical and surgical care for a variety of problems affecting people of all ages.

Q: Are all of your doctors American Board of Podiatric Surgery Certified?
Answer: Yes. In order to provide you with the best care all of our doctors are ABPS-certified. We understand the importance of commitment it takes to be the best we can for the sake of our patients. We have completed appropriate training, successfully preformed a diverse range of podiatric surgical procedures, and passed extensive written and oral examinations.

Q: What is a Bunion?
Answer: A bunion often looks like a bump on the side of the big toe, but a this bump is a visual representation of a change in the bony framework of the front part of the foot. Bunions cause the big toe to lean towards the second toe which throws the bones out of alignment.

Q: Why do I have heel pain?
Answer: Heel pain is most often caused by a heel spur, the buildup of calcium deposits under the heal bone. Heal pain may also be associated with variety of other causes, such as arthritis, nerve irritation stress, fracture, tendonitis or in rare cases, a cyst.

Q: What is Nail Fungus/Why are my nails thick and/or yellow?
Answer: Thickening and/or yellowing of the toe nails is caused by a fungus which can affect people of all ages and is most common in older individuals.

Q: What is an ingrown nail?
Answer: An ingrown toenail occurs when the nail digs into the skin causing pain, redness, swelling and toe warmth. There are several treatments for ingrown toenails depending on the severity and your foot.

Q: What are the most common foot and ankle Sports Injuries?
Answer: Ankle sprains are the most common injury in sports and account for 45% or all injuries in basketball and up to 31% in soccer. Ankle sprains primarily involve the ligamentous structures on the outside of the ankle joint, known as the lateral ligamentous complex. There are three ligaments making up the lateral ankle joint, the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) and posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL). Each ligament connects a part of the outside leg bone (the fibula) to the ankle or heel bone.
